Ship Life series: light box drawings

I created this series in late 2013 with the intention to experiment with ways to present/display drawing and to explore my interest in light boxes and LED lighting design. The drawings were originally created by pen on paper in 2010, after a life-changing voyage onboard a Sea Shepherd Conservation Society ship to Antarctic waters, where I served as a crew member to help stop whale poaching operations.

The drawings paint a rather mundane picture of the two months spent on a ship in the Southern Ocean, devoid of all the drama portrayed in a reality TV show that was produced during that campaign. The light boxes are sleek and minimalist, with their thin anodised aluminium frames. There are a total of ten light box drawings in the series: 7 smaller (15 x 21 cm) and 3 larger (30 x 42 cm).
